Website design for therapists and counsellors

Many of your future clients will read your website before they get in touch, often after finding you on a directory. It should show them the practice your current clients already know.
Slab Seven provides website design for counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists in private practice across the UK. We work out what makes your practice distinct and who it suits, then write and build your website around that.

What is Slab Seven’s website design service for therapists?

Slab Seven’s website design service for therapists is a full website rebuild for counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists in private practice, provided by Paul Croft, a website consultant based in Bristol who works with practices across the UK. Paul works out who your ideal clients are and what those clients need to see before getting in touch. He writes the copy for every page, then designs and builds the site on WordPress with privacy-friendly Plausible Analytics. Most therapist websites cost between £1,500 and £3,000 and take around six weeks, with six weeks of support after launch. Practices that aren’t sure if they need a website rebuild can start with a website audit, which costs £279 and comes off the price of a rebuild.

If your first website didn't work out

The therapists who come to us have usually tried once already. Either they built a site themselves using DIY tools, or they paid someone else and weren’t happy with the result.

You built it yourself, and it stalled

You set aside evenings and weekends to build your own site. Months later it still isn’t finished. The pages don’t connect, the colours make the text hard to read, and every fix on a laptop breaks something on a phone.

You won’t have to build anything. We write the copy, design the site and build it. Your part is telling us about your practice and checking the words as we go.

You paid for a website, and it didn’t work

Someone built your site and you paid for it, but it doesn’t feel like yours. The layout is inconsistent, the wording could belong to any therapist, and the enquiries haven’t come, which makes paying for another one hard to justify.

You get a fixed-price proposal before any work starts. You also see every page as real copy in the browser early on, when anything that doesn’t describe your practice properly is easy to change.

“I love its simplicity and clarity! AND it works on a mobile without any squiffy bits, I always struggled SO much to get it right on mobile devices.”

How we work with counsellors and psychotherapists

We start with the thinking. Many of your clients will already have read your directory profile, so your website is often where they confirm a decision they’ve half made.

  • 1

    Understanding your practice

You fill in a questionnaire about your practice, the people you work best with and the enquiries you’d like more of. Then we talk it through on a call, and look at your current site and the other therapists your clients are likely to compare you with. You don’t need to have the answers worked out.

  • 2

    Writing the copy

We write every page from that conversation, keeping your own phrases where they work. You review the drafts, and we revise them until they sound like you.

  • 3

Seeing the pages before the design

Each page is laid out in the browser with the real copy in place. You click through it the way a visitor would and tell us what needs changing before any design work begins.

  • 4

    Design, build, launch

We design the site around your practice and build it on WordPress. It’s tested on phones, tablets and laptops before it goes live, and we handle the launch. You get six weeks of support, and short video guides show you how to make everyday updates yourself.

  • 5

    Ongoing optimisation

Once your site is live, we can keep it updated and keep improving it using your analytics data. Monthly plans start at £50, with no contract. Find out more

“You have somehow managed to capture me, and all my ramblings, and turn them into a much more succinct, but fitting load of info. The tone really feels like me, I was grinning reading it.”

What counselling and therapy websites need to get right

A therapist’s website has some requirements that most service businesses don’t share.

What's included and what it costs

Every website project includes:

  • Discovery. The questionnaire and call that shape what your site needs to say and who it’s for.
  • Copy for every page. Written for you from that conversation, and revised with you.
  • Wireframes in the browser. Each page laid out with real copy, for you to check the content and flow.
  • Design and build on WordPress. Tested on phones, tablets and laptops.
  • SEO foundations. Page titles, descriptions and a page structure search engines can follow.
  • Privacy friendly analytics. Set up with your own dashboard. Costs £65 per year.
  • Launch and six weeks of support. We handle the launch and stay on hand for questions and fixes afterwards.
  • Video guides. Short recordings showing you how to make everyday updates yourself.

If you need a logo or a refresh of your branding, we can include that too.

Most therapist websites cost between £1,500 and £3,000, depending on how many pages you need and how many services you offer.

You’ll get a fixed price in a written proposal before any work starts.

You can pay in stages through the project, or in full at the start for a discount. If you’ve had an audit with us, the audit fee comes off the price.

Most projects take around six weeks from start to launch. The main variable is how quickly the copy gets reviewed.

Hosting is a separate cost, paid directly to the host. We recommend a plan that includes daily backups and a staging site, a private copy of your website where changes can be tested before they go live.

Your proposal will include the current price of the plan we recommend.

Contact us
  • Do you offer web design for counsellors and psychologists too?

Yes. We design websites for therapists and counsellors in private practice across the UK, including psychotherapists, CBT therapists, couples therapists and psychologists.

  • Can my current website be fixed instead of rebuilt?

Often, yes. Many sites need clearer copy and a few targeted changes rather than starting again.

A rebuild makes sense when the problems run through the whole site, or when the platform can’t support the changes it needs.

If you’re not sure which applies to your situation, a website audit is the best place to start.

  • I'm not technical. Will I be able to manage the site?

Yes. You can change your fees and text, and add new blog posts without breaking the layout, and we’ll show you how before handing it over.

For larger changes, or if you’d rather not touch it at all, we can look after the site for you through website optimisation.

  • Can I write the copy myself?

You can, but it’s where most projects stall. Writing about your own practice is harder than writing for clients or colleagues, and it usually takes longer than people expect. If you’d still like to write it, we can give you a brief for each page and edit what you send.

  • Do I own the website?

Yes. Your site is built on WordPress, and the hosting account and domain are in your name. You own it outright and can move it whenever you like.

  • Is hosting included?

No, you pay the host directly. We recommend a plan with daily backups and a staging site.

  • Do you work with therapists outside of Bristol?

Yes. We work with practices across the UK, by video call and email.

  • Will a new website bring me more enquiries?

We can’t promise a number, but every site is built to help in two ways. Page titles, descriptions and a clear structure make it easier for search engines to understand what you offer and show your site to people looking for a therapist like you.

When those people arrive, the site shows them clearly what working with you is like and makes getting in touch straightforward.

Your practice is good. Your website should reflect that.

Tell us a little about your practice and your current website.

  • Fill in the form and we'll email you to book a call.
  • On the call, we'll talk through your practice and whether an audit is the best place to start.

The call is free and there's no obligation.
